Common Instagram connection errors

When connecting Instagram Studio to your Instagram account, you may run into errors that prevent the connection from completing. These issues are often caused by settings in your Instagram account, invalid data in your browser, or temporary glitches on Instagram’s end.

Invalid session

If you see an invalid session error when trying to connect Instagram Studio to your Instagram account, it usually indicates that Instagram's authentication session has expired or is corrupted, or there’s an account permissions issue. The following steps often help resolve it:

  • Log out of and back into Instagram

    1. Log out of all of your your Instagram accounts.
    2. Log in to the Instagram account that you want to connect to.
    3. Connect your Instagram account to Instagram Studio.
  • Connect in a private browser window

    1. In a private or incognito browser window, Connect your Instagram account to Instagram Studio. This helps ensure that no cached data or cookies interfere with the connection process.
  • Connect using a different browser

    1. In a different browser, such as Firefox or Safari, or on a different device altogether, Connect your Instagram account to Instagram Studio. This helps ensure that no cached data or cookies interfere with the connection process.
  • Remove Shopify Connect-IG from your connected apps

    1. Go to your Instagram account's Apps and websites page.
    2. Beside the Shopify Connect-IG app, click Remove.
    3. Connect your Instagram account to Instagram Studio.

If none of the above steps work then there may be an problem on Instagram's side. Wait an hour or two and then try the steps again.
